This morning, Karl Dean’s mayoral campaign said that 27 local black ministers endorsed him at a breakfast at Harper’s Restaurant in North Nashville.

This afternoon, Bob Clement’s mayoral campaign said that two of the ministers are actually Clement supporters and said Clement will soon hold a press conference regarding African-American support that will “dwarf” Dean’s support.

Shortly afterward, Dean’s campaign requested we revise the 27 number downward. The newspaper is awaiting further comment.

It sounds as if Dean is getting real desperate for support in the African American community. Dean knows Clement is killing him in the African American community and this stunt with a few ministers coupled with his AA Birch commercial belies the fact that he has had no relationship with the communities he needs to win at any point in his life in Nashville. Most folks look at this desperation and view it as pandering. Dean is truly a rich, Vanderbilt imported, chablis sipping, Country Clubbing, Private Schooling, Volvo driving, Massachusetts liberal and the African American’s in Nashville know that he is hard pressed to relate to their plight in life, no matter how much smooth rhetoric and advertisements he sends their way.

Crispy, what was that quote you made about Clement a few years back. It was similar, I think ‘Butcher-loving’ was in there somewhere.

Clement has promised so many different people so many different things that he’ll end up spending his one term as mayor backing off of conflicting promises and won’t get anything done. I’m still interested in what he promised you.

I’ve met both Karl Dean and Bob Clement and though i deem each a nice man and consumate professional i reiterate that Tennessee has the hugest problems with corruption and “backwardness” and poor responsiveness in State and Nashville government. The nashville Cab industry is is the worst sham in the country, the education department is cock-blocked by lawyers, and prostitution, in Tennessee, associated with big political $ is a Horrer that ruins and continues to ruin many lives.

We are a state and country that revolves completely around prostitution and I think that john Edwards is the only one sounding clearly against it.
