Clement = financial peace?
By Bill Harless | Filed Under Nashville Mayoral Race
As of 2:30 this afternoon, Bob Clement and Karl Dean are still going at it over property taxes.
Following Dean’s press conference this morning contra Clement’s new TV ad – browbeating Dean for not promising to never propose a tax increase – Clement has now called talk show host and personal financial guru Dave Ramsey to his aid. From a press release this afternoon:
Syndicated radio talk show host Dave Ramsey of the Dave Ramsey Show is supporting Clement and backed his pledge not to raise property taxes. Dave Ramsey responded to Dean’s query about what Bob Clement’s pledge means by saying, “A pledge sounds pretty basic to me. It means you’re not going to raise property taxes.”
Dean says he won’t take Clement’s pledge because it’s a gimick. He says he won’t raise property taxes.

But Clement’s support for the Music City Center and other large capital projects is at odds with his ‘Tax Pledge’ and Ramsey’s financial philosophy. Clement’s promises remind me of Bush Sr.’s ‘Read my lips’ speech.
The Music City Center is funded entirely by revenues generated from users of the facility and those using hospitality businesses such as restaurants and hotels. Not one penny is slated to come from property taxes…the current center paid for itself ENTIRELY from the same non property tax sources and never got a dime from Metro’s general fund or the property taxpayers over the past 25 years. So… Clement is correct that no local taxes are needed to build it or maintain it. Time for Truth seems to be a Dean shill… attacking any fair minded person who may use reason.
I trust Dave Ramsey more than I do Karl Dean.
