Tuke gets the Alvin York endorsement
By John Rodgers | Filed Under U.S. Senate Race '08
Former Democratic Party Chairman Bob Tuke has a brand-spankin’ new YouTube video out today for his nascent U.S. Senate campaign.
If Tuke were successful in getting the Democrats’ nomination, he of course would face off against Lamar Alexander.
Here’s the script:
Hello. I’m Bob Tuke. And that … is Alvin York. He was a son of Tennessee, a man of great faith and a soldier in World War I. He was awarded the medal of honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest during the U.S.- led offensive in France.
Sergeant York is a personal hero of mine – in part because he was a soldier – in part because he struggled mightily with the morality of war – and in part because, in spite of his concerns and the sacrifice involved, he served his country with honor and distinction.
In the spirit of Alvin York, I have decided to become a candidate for the United States Senate.
First and foremost I want you to know, I am not running against anybody. I am running for America and for Tennessee. In fact, this campaign isn’t even about me … it’s about you … your hopes and dreams for the future … your family … your business … your community.
I am offering myself as a candidate to offer hope, leadership and vision. I want to begin this campaign by asking you to join me as we “Take the hill.”
That phrase means so much to me. I first heard it when I was a Marine. It was a code for action, a statement of urgency and a call to arms.
To my friends, supporters, fellow veterans and everyone who believes it is time to change America I say: Let’s take the hill, together.

I believe that the people of Tennessee – Democrats, Republicans and Independents – are ready for real leadership to attack the problems that face America.
I am Bob Tuke. I approve this message … and I’d like to think that Sergeant York would too.
What do you think?

So isn’t ol’ Alvin deceased? Seems like Bobby-boy Tuke-ie could have gotten an ‘endorsement’ from a living person.
